Letting Go of Stuff
In the past few months, I’ve been drawn to clean up and clear the clutter. I had done a lot when I moved in with my boyfriend last year, but was still holding on to things I thought I would sell, wear again, use for a special occasion, or just because I had spent money on those items (I was also holding on to what I really wanted to let go of).
But the truth is I didn’t feel really good in 1/3 of the clothes in my closet. I stopped wearing a lot of makeup, preferring the feeling of a natural look. And I didn’t have the time, energy, and desire to do a garage sale.
So slowly, I’ve been purging one space at a time. I’m not done and will probably revisit those areas again, but it’s freeing. It feels good to share and give what no longer suits me, but might make someone else happy. And it feels good to ‘grow up’, to allow myself to enjoy a different style, one that reflects where and who I am now.
My challenge to you is to pick one space or room and really ask yourself how each item makes you feel. If it’s not joy, excitement, happiness, inspiration, etc. —> Let it go.
PS : You can make it more fun with a glass of wine (or your own special drink) and blasting some old tunes (good memories only tunes).

Love this post, Amelie. I ran across one of my friends talking about getting rid of a lot of “stuff” the other night, to which I responded, “It’s easy – give it all to me!” 🙂
Seriously, though, I am also getting rid of stuff. I think we collect so much because we haven’t found “our thing” yet, and we don’t feel quite fulfilled. However, I am NOT a minimalist, and I believe that there has got to be some middle ground.
I’ll never understand how Buddha taught the Middle Way, and a lot of the monks have adhered to a very aesthetic lifestyle. To me, that is not the middle way – it’s just the opposite extreme.
For now, I’m good with my Tarot decks and riding my motorcycle, and my books. Pretty much everything else can go. 🙂
I couldn’t get rid of my oracle cards! I love ALL of them 🙂
Books have been difficult to clean up. The bookshelf will probably be the last space I clean!
Great tunes make anything easier!!!! I’m actually working through my house, one room, one drawer, one shelf at a time. All the “purged” items go to the basement – in boxes – and next summer my husband will have a garage sale. I don’t have the patience for a garage sale – but he LOVES chatting to all the people that stop by. So – it’a WIN-WIN for us! I get a clear house, he gets a fun summer weekend!
Thats great that loves it! I didnt know it was something people liked 🙂
I just thought someone could have a weekend business of organizing and doing garage sales for others.
