Love yourself – Part 1

changing your inner dialogueYour inner love dialogue

Do you love your kids? Your family? Your friends? Do you love yourself?

Is the last one a little harder to totally acknowledge?

One of Reiki’s 5 principles is “I will manifest love and respect to all” and this includes YOU! Do you manifest love and respect to your body? To your mind? To your soul? Do you take care of yourself as well as you take care of your kids for an example?

Have you ever stopped yourself and ask if what goes on in your mind’s chatter are mostly thoughts that uplift you or bring you down?

Let’s put it this way… would you really say to someone’s face all the things you tell yourself? Do you realize that every time you put yourself down for ANYTHING, it’s like saying how unlovable you are to every cell of your body? No wonder why we get sick, put on weight and attract bad relationships!

You really need to be mindful of your self-judgment. What do you tell yourself on a regular basis? How does that reflect in your life?

We all share common themes that are very destructive to our well-being (even if they don’t seem like such a big deal).

Thoughts such as comparing yourself to others, wishing for something ‘more’, instead of being happy now, not taking responsibility for what is happening in your life, being unrealistic such as wanting to do something perfectly right away or competing against someone else instead of against yourself.

Practice being loving, not only towards others but toward yourself as well. Accept making mistakes, forgive yourself and choose your thoughts and words carefully.

The Dalai Lama said, “The way to overcome negative thoughts and destructive emotions is to develop opposing, positive emotions that are stronger and more powerful.”

What is the opposite positive thought to something you tell yourself on a regular basis?

If that seems like a daunting task, start with changing one thought per day. If you start being aware of one negative thought you have about yourself and consciously decide that it’s not true and turn it into an empowering thought, that one little step will totally shift your energy.

Start with just one and soon you will become more aware of them. Eventually, you’ll notice even the sneaky ones. Still, it has to start with shifting one thought. Don’t get discouraged, just make the conscious effort to notice when it pops up and change it.

The best thing about it is you don’t have to completely believe the opposite thought either. You can have a little room for doubts. If you catch yourself thinking how you suck with technology, as an example, you can change it to ‘I understand my computer enough to get everything I need done today’. You don’t have to fully believe it as you’re saying it, but I bet you will find ways to make get your work done or someone will appear with a helping hand.

It is a learning curve and it is an effort at the beginning, but once you start changing these negative thoughts you will see a change in your life. It probably won’t happen overnight and it will probably be subtle, but I can assure you it will shift your life. And it will shift you as a person.

Be ready to embrace the change because the person you are about to become is the one you were meant to be.
